Frequently Asked Questions
What’s Different About Comfort Saddles?
Our Comfort saddles evolved from our Native Pony Saddle Company saddles in the early 2000’s as customer who had discovered that our specially designed saddles not only fitted natives but also fitted other flat backed horses such as Iberian horses, Irish draught horses, Arabian horses , Icelandic horses and some very flat backed warmbloods.
At this time we had people asking if we could make them a saddle without the native pony logo, hence comfort saddles were born. Working on what we knew about fitting wide natives we produced our original comfort saddles were range, including a bit more seat padding , nicer leathers and options for competition horses. Fast forward to the present day and we regularity make saddles for high level riders and customers who need somthing special , either for themselves or their horses and ponies who we have met when contacted to fit a saddle for them, many of them who had been recommended to try us as a last resort.
So what’s different about us, we have over 30 years of experience fitting the more challenging breeds of horses and ponies, fitting on average of 5 horses a day, all over the world. Hence there’s very little we haven’t had experience of fitting. We have our own saddle makers in Walsall England, some who have worked from us from the start and been through our journey with us. So it’s easy for us to make your special saddle if thats what you need.
A lot of companies now make their saddles abroad , do you?
No, all our saddles are made here in the UK mainly by saddle makers we have worked with for over 25 years or apprentices they have trained while working with us. Each saddle maker makes an individual saddle and therefore if you have a new saddle or custom saddle made it will be made by the same person who made the saddle you originally had for the trial or previously owned , saddle makers all have a unique way of making these hand made saddles so a saddle made to the same will feel different if made by another one of our saddle makers. Each saddle is a work of art made from scratch by the same person. All the ingredients that go into our saddles are also sourced from within a few miles of our workshops in Walsall England.
How do I book my saddle fitting and what can i expect ?
You can contact us by email, call us on the phone , text or what’s app us. If you follow our facebook page we will post when we are booking for each area and you can therefore comment or pm us from there . We will contact you for a chat so that we can make sure we bring the right saddles that will fit yourself and your horse and book you in on one of our trips . Usually we can give you a approximate time but we will contact you when we are at the saddle fit before you to be more specific on the day and then again once we leave the saddle fitting before you. All our customers are given all the time they need so sometimes it can make us a little late and sometimes we can be early but we will aim to keep you posted as accurately as we can .
We charge a travel charge to come and see you, anyone within an hour of home is £95 and further away is £120, this is the same wherever you are in the country for 0nr person at a yard. If you share your yard visit with a friend or travel to one of our co ordinators then the travel charge can be shared. I.e two people £60 each 3 or more horses £45 per horse as the visits take longer. Saddle checking and fitting is free.
If you want to buy a saddle on the day we should have suitable saddles with us that you can try and buy, we do need payment in full at the time we leave your saddle. Then you have a 14 day trial, we recommend that you do as much riding as possible in this time and then if you need a revisit to try different saddles or a custom saddle made you can let us know in time for us to visit you again with no additional travel charge when we are next in your area.
Do you maintain saddles for us after purchase and if so what are the costs?
We recommend that we make your first revisit after you have your perfect saddle within the first 3 months of the final fitting of the new saddle, horses and ponies change shape as often when you get the right saddle you ride more and the horses way of going changes as they can now work correctly, usually dropping fat and building muscle. This first visit is charged at your usual travel charge but all adjustments are free.
At your first 3 month check we will recommend when we would expect to need to see you next based on your horses age, workload and conformation. Subsequent visits are charged at the usual travel charge when, whether you are having an individual visit or sharing, flocking is £45 and tree adjustments if you need them are £60. All done on site at the time of your visit.
